Each year the Town of Creston creates a budget (Five-Year Financial Plan) laying out how the Town will allocate its resources to achieve Council's identified strategic goals in a fiscally responsible manner.
It is important that the community is involved in the development of this document. Meaningful public involvement can assist Council in better understanding the programs and services residents value most.
The budget process involves balancing municipal income each year with planned expenditures related to service delivery. The budgeting process starts every Fall for the upcoming year and must be adopted by Council no later than May 15th of the budget year.
We invite and appreciate your active participation!
Ways to get involved:
Read through the DRAFT 2026 Budget then look for the "Comments" tab below. Deadline to submit comments/feedback for Council is February 24, 2026.
Do you have any questions about the budget? No problem. Submit your question in the "Questions" tab below and someone will get back to you shortly.
The public is always encouraged to attend Committee of the Whole/Council Meetings to keep informed of the decisions being made affecting the budget process.
***In December 2025 we sent out two surveys for the draft budget direct to everyone's mailbox and available on Let's Talk Creston. The deadline to submit the surveys was December 19, 2025. The surveys are now closed.***

Great looking draft budget. I have one comment, which has been made before. The 30km/h Safety Street Initiative is a mistake. The $71,500 allocated should go to other projects, like ensuring present signage is updated and visible and street lines and crosswalks are identified and lighted where appropriate. Also, there are several intersections that should have traffic lights for safety.

a 4.1% for 2026 is vey reasonable and the $11million of 3rd party funding for the Childcare Facility is super!

I appreciate the way that town council has prepared a budget that is fiscally responsible while also ensuring that there are constant improvements in livability in Creston. An increase of 4.1% is very reasonable in the current fiscal climate. Keep up the good work! I hope there will be a similar enlightened approach to the budgets for shared services with RDCK, including for the Recreation Centre and the Creston Valley Public Library, which provide incredibly valuable services to the community.
