Consultation has concluded

Each year the Town creates a budget (Five-Year Financial Plan) laying out how the Town will allocate its limited resources to achieve Council's identified strategic goals in a fiscally responsible manner. The budget is reviewed and updated by staff and Council, and includes public review prior to adoption at public meetings on an annual basis.

The budget process involves balancing municipal income each year with planned expenditures related to service delivery and preparing detailed plans reflecting those budget forecasts. The budgeting process starts every Fall for the upcoming year and must be adopted by Council no later than May 15th of the budget year.

Ways to get involved:

  • Mayor and Council are seeking feedback on the Proposed 2024 Budget. Look for the "Comments" tab below. Deadline to submit comments/feedback is February 19, 2024.
  • The public is encouraged to attend Committee of the Whole/Council Meetings to keep informed of the decisions being made affecting the budget process.
  • Do you have any questions about the budget? No problem. Submit your question in the "Questions" tab below and someone will get back to you shortly.
  • SURVEYS WERE CONDUCTED IN NOVEMBER 2023 BUT ARE NOW CLOSED: Participate in the two surveys below to have your say on the Town's 2024 Budget cycle. These surveys will also be mailed out to every mail-box in Town limits if you prefer to fill out a traditional paper copy.

We appreciate your concern and understand the importance of fiscal responsibility. The decision to hire a procurement officer stems from the need to streamline processes, ensure transparency, and achieve cost efficiencies in our operations. While mindful of budget constraints, investing in qualified personnel can ultimately lead to long-term savings and improved service delivery for the community.

The 2024 budget is balanced, with reserves earmarked for operational and capital projects. However, funding for the new position will come from a rise in property taxes and anticipated procurement savings. It is anticipated that in the future, the new position will yield savings surpassing its initial cost.

  • Share What is in the budget for Creston and rural areas transit system? We need to step it up a.s.a.p. and obtain more buses, expand routes, and add more service on request days for rural areas for people to get to work. Gas, insurance, etc. is very expensive, and this would cut back on traffic accidents (especially with the elderly), pollution, and general traffic. on Facebook Share What is in the budget for Creston and rural areas transit system? Thank you for your inquiry.

Regarding our transit system, it's important to note that the Town is not responsible for its operation. For assistance in this matter, please reach out to the RDCK.

When were the promised 2023 fireworks?

Love Creston asked 9 months ago

    Thanks for your question.

As you are aware, the fire conditions in the last few years have made fireworks displays very challenging to navigate.  Every year, the Town applies for grant funding to support fireworks. Last year, there was fire ban on late into the fall.  If the fireworks are not purchased, the grant funding is returned. This year, to mitigate the seasonal conditions the Town will be having a Drone Show (lights and music) to celebrate our Centennial Event on May 14, 2024.  We hope you can make it.

Thank you for your question. The RCMP detachment serves the whole area. The detachment has a Provincial side and a Town side. We pay for the Town’s share for policing in Town, while the Province pays for the rural side. The Province charges “Police Tax” to the rural areas for policing. The "police tax" collected is only about 15% of the cost, so the Province subsidizes rural policing to a great extent.

Thanks for your question. The numbers you see in the survey are actually this year's numbers (2023). We had budgeted the Covid dollars just incase we needed them, but we didn't end up spending any of that money. The 50K will not be in the budget for 2024.
